President’s Message – April 2022

President’s Message – April 2022

Good day everyone and welcome to April which I hope will bring us some decent weather.  We need rain to get rid of the salt and then warmer weather with lots of sunshine so we can ready our Triumphs for much-awaited drives.    It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to talk about some upcoming events planned for this spring …

Sunday 17th April heralds the 39th British Car Flea Market and Car Show which is hosted by the Austin Healey Club of Southern Ontario and the British Sports Car Club of Hamilton.  It is Southern Ontario’s largest British car parts flea market featuring both used and new parts for all types of British cars. Located at Ancaster Fairgrounds, at the intersection of Hwy 2 (Wilson St) and Hwy 52 (Trinity Rd), you will also find books, clothing, regalia, food and much more.   TTC will have a booth in the usual location so please drop by to say Hi! and renew your membership. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., admission is $8.00 (Youth under-18 are free). Refreshments are available and a reserved parking area is available for all British cars.  Don’t forget your camera to take pictures of your favourites.  Here’s the URL if you want to find out more http://www.ancasterbritish.ca/

I was chatting with Joe earlier today and he has kindly agreed to host our club at his shop – J.D.Auto in Etobicoke – on Tuesday 19th April at 7 p.m.   We’ll be sending out an invite soon; please respond to the invitation so that I can pre-order the correct amount of pizza and soft drinks for a post-meeting snack.   In addition, please send me an e-mail of anything Triumph related you would like Joe to talk about.  Joe is extremely knowledgeable on all LBCs and he will also discuss the work being done on any of the Triumphs in his shop. I sent a note out yesterday about Spring Fling which is back for this year after a 2-year absence centred around Cambridge. Wahoo!  Register early to avoid disappointment.   Here’s a photo from our last Spring Fling held in 2019.

The 37th Annual British Car Day® will be held on Sunday, 18th September 2022 at Bronte Creek Provincial Park when another great show is planned.   Our poster for this year is being printed as we speak and will be available at Ancaster.  Also available will be BCD handouts and your mission will be to take a few of these and place them on Brit cars.  Amazingly there are still folks out there who have not heard of BCD. Really!

Finally, some news about our club membership fees.   As you will be aware, costs for everything are rising these days, influenced by a variety of factors.   TTC is not immune to these escalating costs and at our last Board meeting we agreed that after 7 years we are forced to increase membership fees by a small increment in order to better manage our finances.   While this increase does not cover all the gap between our income and the expenses of running the club it will help to keep us in a better financial position.   Consequently, effective 1st July 2022 membership fees will increase to $45 for Canada, $55 for USA, $65 for international members and Junior membership will remain at $25.    I trust you can all understand the need for this change and will continue to enjoy all the benefits of a TTC membership.

Drive carefully and I look forward to seeing many of you at Ancaster.

Cheers; Dave
