Good day everyone and welcome to August!
In July we had some very good summer drives as we were able to increase the number of participants allowed under the COVID protocols.
In early July we had a Canada Day run in the west end centred around the Trail Eatery in Campbellville. There was a good mix of Triumphs with six TR6s, two TR4As, two TR250s, two Stags and one TR3A on the drive as well as a couple of Fords. It was a wonderful top-down day to drive on some new routes courtesy of Terence McKillen.
Then on 10th July Bev and Vic Whitmore carried on the TTC round-the-lake tradition, this time a mini one, with a circumnavigation of Lake Simcoe covering ~160 miles. The drive was a “Poker run” and those folks with best hands got a free burger at the Webers Restaurant lunch stop. There will be a full report in an upcoming Ragtop.
In the coming weeks I am happy to report that there are a number of event dates for you to circle in your diaries:
Wednesday 11th August – West-end Drive
This mid-week morning drive will start in the Burlington area and end at the Dutch Mill (https://www.thedutchmill.ca/ ) restaurant in Waterdown for lunch after a 1½ to 2 hour country jaunt. An invitation will be sent out shortly.
Mid-August – Summer Ragtop
Depending upon Canada Post you should be receiving your Summer Ragtop in mid-August. I checked out the proof on Saturday and the printing will commence tomorrow. This edition is focussed on the Michelotti-designed TRs together with some other great content. Here’s a summary of what you can look forward to from Terence and his editorial team.
Tuesday 17th August – MG Car Club West End Cruise
John Burrows of the MGCCT has kindly invited our club to their West End Drive. Derek is coordinating with John and has already sent out an invitation. If you want to join in and have not responded yet please contact Derrek at derekmcallister@gmail.com prior to 12th August.
Thursday 19th August – Driving of a different sort
You will have already heard from Derek McAllister asking if you would be interested in joining him for a game of golf. Depending upon the interest there will be an afternoon game in the North/West corner of the GTA (currently looking around the Brampton Georgetown areas). Derek will be in touch with those who have responded but if you have any questions please contact him at (vice@torontotriumph.com).
~ 21st August – Peterborough Drive
I spoke to Clive Huizinga and he and Alex McLeod are planning an event centred around Peterborough on or around 21st August. You will be receiving an invitation with full details shortly.
Sunday 29th – Wellington County Car Show
I just spoke with Les Bond, one of our club members who lives in Fergus, and he let me know that the 45th Wellington County Car Show will be held on Sunday 29th August at the Wellington Museum on County Road 18 between Fergus and Elora. Here’s the URL: https://www.wellington.ca/en/museum-and-archives.aspx
The show runs from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Les suggests that you arrive at around Noon to secure a good parking spot. Admission is free but you can make a donation to a local charity if you wish. The show will consist of classic cars from all countries including of course LBCs. While there you can take in a tour of the museum, listen to a local band and enjoy a hamburger or hot dog. I will pass along more information as it comes available.
10th to 12th September – British Invasion, Stowe, Vermont
The popular British Invasion event planned for September in Stowe, Vermont is still a go and details can be found at https://www.britishinvasion.com/ . A few TTC members are thinking about heading down to Stowe so if you are interested in joining them please let me know and I’ll pass your name along to them.
10th to12th September – Drive Festival Event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
We have been invited to attend the Drive Festival and for more details go to https://www.drivefestival.com/ As one of the organizers said …
We are creating space for Car Clubs like yours to have space for 10 vehicles inside the event, each of our 3 days of the festival. This is FREE to your members, and Drive Festival will provide them with 2 General Admission tickets per vehicle (up to 10 vehicles). We will also provide a discount code (20% OFF General Admission) for over and above those 10 vehicles so other members of your club can still attend.
I will send out the details (there are a lot!) in an e-blast to gauge interest so stay tuned.
30th September to 3rd October – 6-Pack Trials, Richmond, VA
The 6-Pack 2021 TRials event is definitely a “GO”. For more details go to the 6-Pack Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/138914579533033/ or send an e-mail to microtr6@gmail.com
Please stay safe and I do hope that we’ll see you on some of the events planned. Let’s hope the summer excursions to exercise our Triumphs will continue well into the fall. Should you have any questions, please call me.
Cheers; Dave
