President’s Message – August 2023

President’s Message – August 2023

August seems to have crept up on us and all of a sudden it’s only 7 weeks to British Car Day planned for Sunday 17th September.  A couple of reminders for our big day:

  • To pre-register go to FAST LANE
  • To volunteer to help out on Saturday and/or Sunday contact Rob Ragsdale

Yesterday Maggie and I drove up to Port Perry for Brits-on-the-Lake which has not been held since 2019.  This year we estimated that there were about 130 cars in attendance in 8 different classes including GT, MG, Morris Minor (celebrating 75 years), Race, Saloon, Sport and of course Triumph.  It was great to enjoy some excellent summer weather, meet up with old friends and enjoy a good catch-up with them. As a bonus we were delighted to chat with overseas club members Andrew and Rachel Grace who were visiting from Britain.

I was under strict instructions from Terence to take lots of photographs for the Fall edition of Ragtop.  I’ll post them to our web site when I get a few minutes but here are a few of them:

Earlier in July Brits-in-the-Park had a successful day despite the predicted thunderstorms.  Rain had stopped by 9 a.m. and the park was in good shape.  Frank tells me that 109 cars and 3 motorbikes were registered and some of our TTC members were awarded prizes.  Of course there will be a write-up in Ragtop.

In August we have a choice of events for you to attend including.

August Long Weekend Drive West – Saturday 5th August

Please join Terence and me for an August long weekend drive on some excellent country roads.   You may recognise some of the route but we’ll be going in the opposite direction from usual.   Terence looked at a route north of Guelph towards Elora and Fergus but decided the route below has more enjoyable roads. The drive will start in Campbellville and will include a clockwise route returning to Campbellville where you can enjoy lunch at the Trail Eatery.   We already have 16 cars registered but there’s room for more.

August Long Weekend Drive Central – Monday 7th August

Please join Derek for a drive on the Civic Holiday of Monday, geared for club members in the “central” area of the GTA.  As usual, we will avoid main roads (and gravel!), and stick to curvy and hilly side roads on either side of the 400 up to around Schomberg and back. We will start and end in Woodbridge, ending at a great restaurant that we tried back in early spring that everyone enjoyed.

Central Drive to Edenvale – Saturday 12th August

Please join Derek and fellow club members for a drive up to Edenvale in time for the Gathering of the Classics car show. Entry is $10 per car payable at the gate. We will avoid main roads but still will follow a direct route via Tottenham and Angus.

Look forward to seeing you sign-up for one (or all) of these drives and in the meantime I hope you enjoy driving your Triumphs in August.
