Happy one month closer to driving season!
As this email arrives in your inbox I should be arriving in sunny Florida after a few days of driving south. This is our first long stay away from home, so wish us luck. Here’s to no snow (hopefully!) for us for the next month and a bit! My seized passenger-side trunnion was not addressed during our cold January, so the car is back on its wheels for the next several weeks until we see some nicer temperatures in March.
John Burrows, coordinator of the MGCCT 2023 TOYS FOR TOTS Campaign, recently shared the following update: “In late November it was my privilege to personally present a cheque for $1,850 to Major Miriam Stevens at the Georgetown Branch of the Salvation Army. The total raised was $400 more than was raised in 2022. The money came from registrations to the MGCCT BRASS MONKEY RUN, profits from the sale of some MG regalia, and from cash donations from many people. To everyone who supported this cause in one way or another a big THANK YOU.”
We had a great turnout with 21 members and spouses at our first event of 2024, a lunch/meeting on January 20th. We welcomed three brand-new members at the event; welcome Andrew, Andrew, and Hugh! We dodged a curve ball when the original restaurant abruptly cancelled our reservation the day before. A quick scan of nearby eateries with excellent reviews landed us at Grazie Vaughan, 9100 Jane St. in Concord. They were very accommodating, and the food and service were both wonderful. No Triumphs made the trek to this event…
Drive Your Triumph Day is happening on Saturday, February 10th. The event began in 2016 as a celebration of Sir John Black’s birthday. Participating is easy: On February 10th, take a picture of your Triumph or Standard and email a high-resolution copy to driveyourtriumphday@gmail.com, accompanied with some basic details: Owner’s name, year and model of car, and place photo was taken (city, province, country). More info/optional registration can be found here.
Our next club event is a visit to TTC member Matt Molson’s eclectic shop near Lakeshore and Dixie Roads in south-eastern Mississauga on Saturday, February 17th. He has a large shop with many interesting vehicles (not just cars). More details can be found in the email sent on Jan 27. If you would like to attend please register here.
Other Club events that are being planned for over the next few months include:
- An evening shop visit at JD Auto in March – always a crowd-pleaser
- Another lunchtime get-together before driving season
- The Ancaster British Car Show and Flea Market on Sunday, April 21st
- Spring Fling, to be held in the Jordan Bench (Niagara) area on Saturday May 25th with the MGCCT. This is a one-day event with optional hotel stay(s) for attendees. More info to come soon!
I hope to see you at one or more of these events!
