President’s Message – October 2024

President’s Message – October 2024

Happy October!

Autumn began officially on the 22nd and we’ve enjoyed warm temperatures as the month of September concluded.

It was been a busy month in the McAllister household with birthdays, a family anniversary, a couple of gatherings with friends and neighbours, and of course a few LBC-focused activities!

  • I and a number of Club members drove out to Goodwood on Thursday the 12th for a morning Cars & Coffee outing organised by Jim Phythian of the Austin Healey Club of Southern Ontario. There were 19 LBCs on display including two Spitfires, a TR4A, seven TR6s, a TR7, a Stag, four Morgans, one Classic Mini, an MGA, an MGB, and a Healey 3000. Jim organised one more event on Friday, October 4th in Port Perry. If you’re located in the eastern part of the GTA watch for events starting up again in the spring – they are opprtunities to meet other LBC enthusiasts without driving across the entire city!
  • British Car Day® took place on the 15th and it was a great success. We chose two Best Of Show winners for the first time, allowing us to recognise classic and modern classic British cars. We also recognised Tony Fox’s interest in and commitment to the Club and the hobby by presenting him with the Charlie Conquergood Award – congratulations Tony!Dave Sims sent out a recap email on the 17th – if you don’t remember seeing it you can have a look at the 2024 recap here.

I led a late-September drive on the 28th up to Holland Marsh and back, ending with a lunch stop in Woodbridge. Ten cars made the drive, including one TR4A, one TR7, seven TR6s, and one Miata. A few cars peeled off along the way (none for mechanical issues, by the way!) and seven cars (eleven people) joined the lunch gang.
