President’s Message – August 2024

President’s Message – August 2024

Happy August!

Welcome to the real heat of summer! As I write this we’ve had several days of 30+ temperatures and high humidity. That doesn’t deter us, however, and driving the TR6 resumed after a somewhat busy (and non LBC-driving) start to July. We did manage to put together a few events and enjoy the longer summer days.

Patrick organised an evening pub visit in Unionville on July 11th, returning to an old haunt that we last visited about seven years ago. We had a good turnout with nine cars and eleven members/spouses. It was wonderful to see Bev and Vic at the event – they’re doing well after their June ordeal.

I organised a Burg (Kleinburg) to Berg (Schomberg) drive on July 20th. The weather was wonderful, the route was enjoyable, and lunch was quite good on the expansive patio at the Schomberg Pub & Patio. We had nine cars and fifteen members/spouses come out for the drive.

On July 27th we had our Summer BBQ at the McKillen property. It was a fantastic day with sunny skies and good food. 33 cars made the trek to the farm, including a contingent of 9 cars that drove out with me from west-end Toronto. In total 66 members and guests attended the event, including Laurie with her broken leg (well done!). Have a look at Tush’s video of the cars at the BBQ video.  Thank you to Dave, John and Marg, and to everyone else who volunteered to make the event a great success.

Our upcoming events are:

  • A drive to, and attendance at, the Gathering of the Classics at the Edenvale Aerodrome on August 10th. This is a wonderful combination of old cars and old planes
  • A “Triumph Takeover” of Classic Country Thursday in Port Credit on August 15th (for those that are interested, the event takes place all of August and starts on the 1st)
  • A visit to the Canadian Steam Museum near Puslinch on August 24th
  • Other events as listed on our Club Calendar and member website (login required): https://bit.ly/3zqBLWh

Other events that may be of interest to members:

  • On Sunday, August 18, 2024 the Carden Cruiser Group is hosting the Third Annual “Brits at the Lake” at the Carden Recreation Centre, 258 Lake Dalrymple Road, on the shores of Lake Dalrymple near Sebright, ON.
